Reflecting the Beauty of the Lord. 25 Devotions for Women.

My church gave these out to mothers as Mothers' Day Gifts, a couple of years ago. I just now got around to reading mine. I had no idea it was going to be so awesome, so beautiful, so powerful. If you have this book, and haven't read it yet, don't take as long as I did to get around to reading it! I highly recommend it to all women. (Men can read it, too.)

Have you ever known someone who was strikingly beautiful on the outside, but the inside did not match? I do know lots of people like that, and it seems to be a waste of beauty. The inside is a rot gut pool of hatred, arrogance, disrespect, etc, but the outside is so beautiful, but it doesn't make up for the inside.

This book talks about the inner beauty of God's women, and how it actually radiates to the outside. The way it was presented was so beautiful and encouraging. And Bible scriptures were included. Yes, the Bible speaks of our inner beauty!

There are so many good examples I could give you from this little booklet, but if I did, I'd be quoting the whole book! This book did me a world of good. I LOVE it!!!

Churches do studies from other books. I think they should do a study from this book . . .

A Nice Little Korean Phrase Book (Not a Good Dictionary)

I purchased the Berlitz Speaking Your Language "Korean Phrase Book and Dictionary" as a pocket guide as a quick reference when I travel to Korea. I have used Berlitz books and courses in other languages, and I specifically recall using their Japanese phrasebook in Tokyo.

Overall I am pleased with Berlitz phrase books. The Korean book is small (5.5x4.0 inches) and color indexed on the open edge by subjects. The subjects/sections of the book are Survival, Food, People, Fun, Special Needs, Resources, and the back is the Bilingual Dictionary section. The transliteration is easy enough to understand if you have heard the phrases before, but may be difficult to speak if you are completely unfamiliar with the language. I recommend checking out a CD course at a local library or purchasing some form of the language on MP3 or CD before traveling in order to hear and read some of the common phrases first.

Like all phrase books, they are much more useful if you know their layout and can quickly flip to the right phrases.

The best part is that the phrases are written in Hangul adjacent to the English and phonetic spelling; therefore, in a scenario where you cannot pronounce the phrase, you can simply show the book to the Korean and point to the phrase you need.

The most lacking part of this book is the dictionary, although no phrase book I have ever used has had a robust dictionary included as size is a big factor in phrasebooks.

I recommend this book as a quick reference for anyone traveling to Korea or as a pocket phrase study book or language learning aid if you are not in Korea. I would recommend anyone traveling to study the language more than just reading through this phasebook, and use the book to jog your memory for specific phrases.

The author of 17 books, she has edited 10 other books, published more than 100 articles and book chapters and presented numerous papers at professional conferences. Intriguing!

Very interesting text book! This book doesn't provide the information in an overcomplicated or boring manner, but instead cuts right to the interesting facts and ideas about gender studies.

Reading this text book will provide you with bountiful insight as to why men and women do the things they do, and how there is no singular, definitive answer to that question.

One part that I appreciate about the text book is the inclusion of quotes from sources (usually young adults) outside of the author which described their own personal experiences and understandings of the theories of gender studies.

Great Intro Phil and Art

I have been searching for a good (readable) text for my Philosophy of Art class that would be a hybrid of primary text and commentary. This is certainly one that fits the bill. It is also a great read for those interested in Philosophy and Art. I recommended the book to a fellow faculty member and he will be adopting it for his course at another college.

Helped Me Land My Dream Job. 'Nuff Said.

For those who are bashing this book for its lack of depth - READ THE TITLE! This is not intended as a far-reaching analysis of the SQL Server Engine or a how-to on become a more adept SQL Ninja. The purpose of this book is to prepare you for common questions that come up in job interviews for SQL Developers, Admins, Analysts and Report masters. It does exactly what it sets out to - I know, because it was a significant component to me landing the offer of my dreams.

Regardless of how much you work with SQL Server there are numerous little details that either get forgotten or may not have been acquired in the first place. Pinal and Vimod address a pretty comprehensive list of questions with brief yet thoroughly accurate responses that will increase a candidate's confidence when it comes to the in-depth challenges of a technical interview. In my case, for instance, being able to say that a TRUNCATE command is "minimally logged" as opposed to "unlogged" (a common misconception) separated me from the pack - a detail that was clarified directly from the book.

This book won't make up for any lack of whiteboard skills (such as writing out queries or designing schemas). You still will have to show your stuff on your own there. I was amazed, however, at the sheer number of questions that came directly out of the book. I knew the gist of the answers for the most part on my own, but Pinal and Vimod helped form my responses in a coherent, confident way. If you are serious about preparation for a career in SQL Server, this book should be an arrow in your quiver.

This book is an really an upsell for their second book

I was expecting to learn a lot more from each topic. I understand that this is for interviews, but even then I need to
demonstrate some deeper understanding of each topic. An interviewer is also likely to be aware of this book and
would dig deeper to test the understanding.

What I enjoyed was: each topic ended with a url for more details on Pinal's blog. This is awesome.
What I didn't dig as much: where a bit more depth was required, they referred the reader to the Joes 2 Pros book.

So I'd recommend to get the Joes2Pros book, or another book.

Started off quite good for the first 1/3 of the book.

However there were continual references of "If you wish to learn more, read Joes 2 Pros", so the book came across as more of an advertisement.

Then that turned into simply copy & pastes of his Blog that you can read for free.

I am highly doubtful anyone would be asked these questions during an interview.

I'd have rated it 2 out of 5 if it was not so cheap.

Fairly accurate, should be called: Queen of Viciousness and LIES!!!

Finally a book that tells the horrific truth about Ms. Love. I believe every word
but to tell you the truth, I believe Melissa Rossi sugar coated a lot of stuff in this book. Courtney Love is the most manipulative person (if you want to call her a person) on the face of this earth. She tormented everyone she has ever come in contact with. She has only one thing on her mind at all times and that is herself!!
She will go out of her way to stab anyone in the back the second they turn their back, just look at all of the fake stories she planted about her own husband, he was not the druggie she made him look like, quite the oposite, the moment he left the room she started spewing all sorts of filthy lies about him, her own husband who she claimed to love, ha!! This book is too kind, but it did verify a few things. Informative read.

Save your money..."Queen of Noise" ain't worth it

This book was practically painful to read. I was looking forward to it, being a big fan of Courtney Love's. Having heard about it on the internet through the Hole mailing list Hole Lotta Love and the newsgroup alt.fan.courtney-love, I enthusiastically plonked down my $7.99 at Toronto's World's Biggest Bookstore. What a mistake, when I realize now I could have bought some nail polish, new shoe laces and a frappucino for that much. Rossi's main source for info seems to be some obscure ex-boyfriend of Courtney's. Yeah, now *there's* a reliable and honest perspective. I'm not sure whether Rossi is a Love champion or not...she seems to admire her but examines all the awful things she's allegedly done. Love's life is a compelling story; I'm looking forward to the Poppy Z. Brite biography even more after reading this crap. Better writing would certainly have raised this above 7-11 cheesy rock bio. Unfortunately, that's where I feel Rossi's work should remain. She even gets simple facts such as significant dates wrong. I was thoroughly disappointed...I feel Love deserves so much better than this garbage. I'm not defending her as a person; I don't know if she's stolen or lied or what. I just really didn't enjoy this book. A friend of mine in Seattle that I lent this to (in order to save her money) says she couldn't even read it. .."I just looked at the pictures"

You'd THINK this shocking story wouldn't be a waste of paper

Unfourtunately, you'd be wrong. From all accounts, Courtney Love's life is one of melodrama- from her unconvetional childhood among hippies, a shocking upbring, stories of drug usage, groupiedom, and Courtney Love's phenomenal band Hole, to her controvericial (yet, regardless of what this book will have you believe, not at all loveless) marrige to rocker legend Kurt Cobain, to the birth of child Frances Bean Cobain, to her continues transformation a self proclaimed rock star...
Clearly there is a lot of material for a biography of Courtney Love- a story such as hers is both engaging and deeply moving, when told from an unbiased source. But the author of this trashy work of non fiction decides to completely dehumanize Love, destorying the notion of love in Courtney Love's life, choosing instead to focus on persona rather than actual life experiances. Reading this, one would believe that Courtney and everyone she knew was a psychopath. It seems that in this book, being a psychopath is cause for glorification!
This book needs to be more personal. It needs to focus on the good as well as the bad. And it needs to be put off the market. Please don't buy this book. Buy: Courtney Love: The Real Story. It's a much better read and gives you a much better look into duch a painful life.

Buy when you are in school!

I purchased this reference guide as I was preparing for my NCIDQ exam to become a licenensed designer. While there was pertinant information I wished that someone had reccomended that I purchase it as I entered into design school.

There are many useful on Human anthropometrics, the use of space and environmental systems. However, there isn't much information on the architectural aspects of interior design (nominal lumber sizes/ building products & materials etc.)

Francis Ching (or his editor) is very good at laying out his books so that design professionals can easily read through, or can use them to reference when looking for specific information.

A great addition the the library of Interior Designers and students.

This book is a great book. no color pictures but only scetches. This book is about scale, orientation, symmetry, proportion, shape of objects and interiors etc etc. You get the idea. I recommend you buy this book.

Why did I spend less than 10 minutes reviewing the contents of this book? I picked it up at the library to review as a potential purchase as a resource in my own collection. Immediately upon turning the pages, I realized that this book was not directed towards professionals who have experience in the field of architecture/interiors, but for students and recent graduates. It was easy to see that all of the information contained in the book was that which I had long ago learned through schooling and professional practice.

If you are a student, this will give you a great opportunity to get into the meat of the profession (specifically interiors), but if you've already accumulated some experience, this might be worth very little.

Why did I give it 3 stars? Because I believe that Ching's two other books ("Building Construction Illustrated" and "Building Codes Illustrated") are exceedingly more useful and valuable, regardless of your status (student or professional) and of your profession (interiors or architecture).
