Dr. Kelly has served The University of Akron in its administration as Associate Provost and most recently as Interim Dean of Engineering.

Book is mediocre and difficult to follow. Students be warned.... The solutions manual for this product has numerous errors and teachers have assigned these problems to see who is actually doing the work. Overall this book is probably the best Dynamic Systems book I have gone through.

To be fair, I had Dr. Kelly as a professor, so I could be a bit skewed. The book is easy to follow, and is defiantly an extension of Dr. Kelly's teaching. The book is a great resource to preparing for higher level work.

Although I have been a maker since before the word was invented, and I already knew a great deal of what is in this book, I find it a delightful compilation of the most useful tools and how to use them correctly. It even reminded me of a few things I had learned once but had since forgotten. I bought a kindle copy, and then invested in another print copy to keep in our nascent makerspace for people to refer to and help them imagine what they might be able to do, given the right tools (in a nutshell... almost anything!)

This in not a great book, but it is a pleasant read with a few good ideas. My shop is more machine with a LITTLE tech. We have now removed the tech from the machine shop and setting up in a clean room. So the book earned it's keep and paid for itself.

A must-buy for anyone interested in Making

I have subscribed to Make magazine since its inception and have been involved in numerous excursions into robot building. This book provides the best one-stop reference I have ever seen. The author provides detailed explanations of tools (great ideas for presents) and concentrates on their function and how you would correctly use them. As an example, I never knew that the handle color of metal shears actually indicates the type of cut they were designed for (now I know why I had a hard time making a straight cut with my shears).

Beyond basic tools, the book also covers advanced equipment like 3D printers and laser cutters. How they work, how to service them, how to program them and sample projects to try. Electronics, from the basics of soldering to more advanced concepts like circuit board design, are covered in considerable depth. At the end of the book there is an entire section dedicated to moving STEM related projects into the classroom.

Well balanced, this book should appeal to seasoned makers who want a solid reference to turn to. It should also appeal to anyone who wants to try their hand at designing or making the type of projects found in Make magazine. Finally, if you are setting up a Makerspace in your school, business, or if you're lucky enough, your basement or garage this book is absolutely required.

He works for Crop Production Services. He is married and has two daughters and lives near Lodi, California. Dave Barlow has worked for J.R. Simplot Co. since 1989, has forty-three years of experience in the turf and landscape industry, and holds a Bachelor of Science in crop science with a concentration in agronomy. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is a licensed pest control adviser in California in all categories.

Essential horticultural reference

As a horticultural professional I work tirelessly to maintain current and accurate knowledge of the various technical elements that comprise the work that I perform. Upon receipt of this text, I sat down and gave it a thorough review and discovered a good many updates to my present understanding of fertilizer and the role it plays in plant health. In addition, the focus on the chemistry of the fertilizer components have been very helpful in aiding my understanding of how many of the materials I have come to rely upon in commercial fertilizer blends are constructed. Frankly, I would hope this text finds its way into the undergraduate classroom so as to better prepare and more thoroughly inform the horticulture major as it has grown increasingly frustrating to interview candidates for roles involving fertility management and crop production only to learn they often know nothing of the chemistry of fertilizer as it pertains to plants and their growth. Only a couple of weeks of my ownership finds the reference to be quite a page burner and therefore, essential reading for those of us endeavoring to practice horticulture from an informed place of knowing. Must have for Graphic Design lovers

This was the first Victionary book I ever purchased and I have never regretted it since. I actually bought this one at a store for full retail price when it came out for $40. So please get it on Amazon while it lasts!! It's so much cheaper!

What I love most about this book is how it gives you these little tabs that you can pull out for convenience. It looks cool too. But I love going to this book for reference and inspiration when I'm designing. Although this is no replacement for a swatch book, there are a lot of great design ideas that WORK that are published and you can get a feel of how the colors impact the particular designs. It's a good way to get a 'feel' for using colors in your own design, especially if you're into using one particular color palette in a project.

Not to mention, it's just an awesome visual explosion of imagery to look through. Even my non Graphic Designer friends think the book is cool just for looking at all the cool designs in different colors.

Awesome Book for Design Inspiration

I saw a friend's copy of this book and bought it the next day. Seriously, it's that cool.

I love that it's organized by color, and it really demonstrates effectively how color impacts the feel of the design/brand. I generally gravitate towards warmer colors, so I was immediately drawn to those sections first, but was surprised at how I was pulled in by the greens and blues as well.

The designs in this book are crazy good, and although I've looked at it more times than I can count it's definitely still in the idea-inspiration rotation on my bookshelf. Plus, the cover is awesome!

Great Information - Especially for the layperson

I purchased this book to use in my research for my presentation on art therapy used in the treatment programs for autistic children. This was a wonderful, insightful book that increased my interest in the subject matter. I learned a lot about autism, as well as art therapy. It is easy reading (especially for a college research project!) yet gave me real data that I could use in my report. The subject matter is handled in both a professional manner, as well as having a personal "voice", or tone. I would recommend this for anyone with an interest in art therapy, autism, or to the college student (or perhaps professional) who is doing research on the effectiveness of art therapy when used with autistic children.

It is full of insightful research and lists several way to approach the issue of teaching children with autism in the art environment without overstimulating them and still achieving maximum results. The book is full of ideas for both parents and carers/ facilitators who want something different to try with children and gain further insight into the mind of the autistic.
