About the Author
Douglas C. Giancoli obtained his BA in physics (summa cum laude) from UC Berkeley, his MS in physics at MIT, and his PhD in elementary particle physics back at the UC Berkeley. He spent 2 years as a post-doctoral fellow at UC Berkeley’s Virus lab developing skills in molecular biology and biophysics. His mentors include Nobel winners Emilio Segr� and Donald Glaser.

it should have clarified so I didn't waste my money on this

Please don't advertise that this book comes with Mastering Physics and the e-text if it doesn't! Even for renting, it should have clarified so I didn't waste my money on this. Offer it as a separate item if you cannot provide the entire item as advertised.

Not just for teens!

OK, I’ve left my teenage years well behind now but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a great teen novel – and this is one such story. With well written characters, plenty of teenage angst, a mystery to solve and relationships to explore this is a story full of twists, turns and incidents to keep the reader, whatever their age, entertained.

Sloane Whitaker is forced to move for her senior year from her home in New York to Austin. She resents the move but knows it is her own fault because of the ‘Incident’, which has left her with a police record. Her father and brother have stayed in New York so she’s determined to get back on her Mum’s good side so the two of them can move back asap!

The two have moved into the house next door to her Mum’s BFF college friend but the friend has warned Sloane’s Mum about her son, Tru, so Sloane has also been warned to steer clear of involvement with him. A bit difficult for graphic artist Sloane when he jumps up to join her on the roof outside her bedroom on her first day in her new home, then the Head at her new school sets him on as her school guide! As if that wasn’t bad enough, he’s cute, attractive and she’s finding him hard to resist.

Sloane has her own secrets – including the ‘Incident’ and her online graphic work. Tru also has secrets and is nothing like Sloane had been led to believe. When members of the senior graphic art class start being targeted by malicious events, Sloane and Tru need to work together to expose the perpetrator before she, too, succumbs to their malicious actions.

Where new friends aren’t always what they seem, this story explores relationships, starting at a new school, physical abuse, secrets, solving mysteries and has a hint of romance. It is an enthralling read which I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into.

My Thoughts: I wasn’t sure what I was really getting into as I started this one. I remember requesting it originally and knowing it sounded good but I randomly decided to read it one night on my kindle.

And I thought it was a cute story! We are introduced to Sloane who has gotten into some trouble at her old school so her mother uproots her and they decide to go away for a little while so Sloane can start over. New school, new friends, new life.

Sloane and her mother move into a nice little house next door to her mom’s old friend. She has a son named Tru. Tru is popular and a good guy. But even though people believe he’s a good guy he gets into a lot of trouble. And he’s mischievous. Sloane’s mom tells her to stay away from him!

I just knew from the first night he jumped up on her roof things were gonna be crazy! And sweet, and romantic. Tru and Sloane become friends and someone ends up doing the exact same thing at Sloane’s new school that she got into trouble for at the old school. And, of course some blame Tru. The culprit turns out to be the person I thought it may be. Kind of suspected that.

I really did enjoy this one. I thought it was cute and I enjoyed getting to know Tru and Sloane both.

Overall: This one was a very fast read for me. And though it does have some deep lessons it was a cute and fun read. I just loved learning about Sloane’s art but I also liked seeing Tru’s deep personality! Very nice! I'd probably rate this between a 3.5 and 4 cupcake rating!

Books of Love Book Review: Then Things Sloane Hates About Tru by Tera Lynn Childs

A totally enjoyable read. I literally found myself liking the two main characters and felt that these were two people who are trying to deal with what life has thrown at them. Both Sloane and Tru are two teenagers who have some pretty serious things to contend with. Sloane and Tru know that nothing is ever what it seems.

I really found that Sloane seems to be someone who has to start over. No one wants to start over, especially her. She has been forced to move to Texas with her mother for her senior year. There are new rules and restrictions. We get told what she did was extremely bad. I like that she is really trying hard not to lose her cool. Her mother says that our actions have consequences not just for ourselves, but others as well. I think that Sloane has a very hard road ahead of her.

Tru also has secrets of his own. He likes his new neighbor and thinks that she is going to make things interesting. Sloane immediately thinks that he is quite a pain to be really honest. The way they talked and acted right from the start was so definitely real. I think that Tru likes to project a different front to the outside world rather than the one he is dealing with at home. His father abuses him physically but makes sure that no one can see the signs of it. It weighs on him heavily at times. I think that he realizes that this is a bad situation but because of his father being in a position of power, that no one might believe him.

The chemistry between Sloane and Tru is interesting. I like that the author decided to take time to develop their friendship before getting them into a relationship. I like that both Sloane and Tru really develop that first. The other thing that I like is that they both go to the same school and find out that they both have different forms of art. They also seem to have some of the same group of people they hang out with. There is a huge kinship that develops between the two of them. I really love how Sloane tells him and Aimleigh what she did in New York. It was an action that was stupid because it got other people fired and without a job. Not to mention she is here in Texas now. Tru gains new respect for her.

Also the other thing that I enjoyed about this book was how the relationships they have with other people like their parents changes and evolves in very realistic ways. I also like how Sloane tells off at one point Tash that she is being selfish and that their actions had consequences. Tash is her best friend from New York. It was interesting to see that people are growing as characters. Also we learn that someone is doing some things to the other girls in the school. We learn some surprising things about Aimleigh. Aimleigh has been good friends with Sloane, but Sloane realizes that she is not a good person after a few things happened.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

About the Author

Eiji Itoi, MD, PhD, is Professor and Chair, Tohoku University School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan. Dr. Itoi is President of the Japan Shoulder Society and Chairman of the ISAKOS Upper Extremity Committee. He has been the recipient of various awards, including (twice) the Charles S. Neer Award from ASES, Richard B. Caspari Award from ISAKOS and (twice) the Jacques Duparc Award from EFORT. In 2013 Dr. Itoi was President of the 12th International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

People by the "who" more than they buy the "what." Make sure they know who you are.

I bought this book about a month ago and got through it pretty quickly. It's very well written, with clear explanations and examples. In some ways it targets the UK public, but for the most part it applies to everybody who is a little hesitant about blowing his or her own horn.

I recommend this book very highly to anybody with any ambition. As Jennifer Holloway points out, you'll need to develop your personal brand both for outside your current company and for what you do inside. People by the "who" more than they buy the "what." Make sure you know who you are and are communicating it clearly in all the ways you interact with people (in person, on the phone, in email, on linkedin, and so forth). Make sure people know what they are going to get when they work with you.

I'll finish with another excellent point made by Holloway, be authentic. Not everybody is going to like your brand, you can count on that. So communicate who you are clearly and face the fact that not everybody will like it.

Buy several books for your comrades, they will thank you

Using humor and her deeply authentic style to make key points stick, Jennifer lays out the basics of personal branding in a practical guide that you'll turn to again and again. Whether it's in person, in the office, or online, Jennifer delivers the how-to of creating, promoting and maintaining your personal brand. I personally love the real-life, easy to read examples on every other page titled, "here's what I'm talking about." Go ahead and purchase several books and pass them out to your colleagues. They will thank you!

About the Author
Mary B. Anderson is the Executive Director of CDA Collaborative Learning Projects. Mary earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Colorado in Boulder and held a postdoctorate appointment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has served as Program Associate for the Harvard Institute for International Development and as Acting Director of the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College. Her international work began in 1961 in East Africa where she worked as a Community Development Assistant for the Tanganyikan (now Tanzanian) government, living in villages in the Northern and Central Provinces. Since then, she has worked in over 70 countries in the fields of education, local technology development, conflict analysis and peace building, humanitarianism, and development. She has consulted with governments, the World Bank, United Nations agencies and numerous non-governmental NGOs. She is the author of numerous articles, programming documents, and of several books that deal with humanitarian and development assistance in poor or warring societies. She has been closely engaged in the work that produced this book, involved in several of the site visits and headquarters consultations from which the lessons were derived. Luc Zandvliet is the Director of the Corporate Engagement Project at CDA Collaborative Learning Projects. He earned an MSc in Personnel Management at Tilburg University in the Netherlands and an MA in Humanitarian Assistance at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He has worked with humanitarian agencies such as M�decins Sans Fronti�res Holland and the International Committee of the Red Cross in various crisis areas, often the same areas where companies also have a presence. These experiences prompted him to ask how it is possible to make sure that corporations have positive, rather than negative, impacts on the lives of local stakeholders. This book is the result of that query. Since the Corporate Engagement Project began in 2000, Luc visited over 25 company sites in 16 countries in his work with CDA and he was involved in the majority of the fieldwork conducted for this book. He is currently working on integrating the lessons learned through the Corporate Engagement Project in new applications such as human rights risk assessments, risk assessment tools for the financial industry, and training and coaching approaches for field-based company staff.

A good no-nonsense guide for managers

The book is quite simple and pragmatical, with a lot of good ideas and remarks, even if it lacks (in my opinion!) some theoretical/historical/geographical perspective. The kindle edition is good value for money: if you are a manager in a foreign country who needs to engage the local community, you should definitely buy it and read it once.

Alec Dubois will lead Mia on a journey of self-discover! These words are a MUST buy!!

In the Calendar Girl serial, we have been promised monthly installments featuring Mia and 12 different clients in 12 different locations, the second novella takes us to Seattle where we meet Alec Dubois. He is a French artist who will lead Mia on a journey of self-discovery. He helps her like herself a little more… Starts a healing process that for Mia has been a long time coming…
With this story Audrey Carlan managed to combine the perfect amount of longing for Wes while showing us the combustible heat and chemistry with Alec. She shows us how this February relationship became a cathartic one where Mia learned to live for herself for once instead of always taking care of and putting everyone else’s needs first. While texts and a phone call with Wes give us a glimpse of the January man that we know and love the author shows us that you can “love the one you’re with” for a snapshot in time and take moments from that relationship that will stay with you for a lifetime.
This book wraps much like January did with a letter to her client. The poignant words show us what Alec and their time together has meant to Mia. We also get to see the email from Aunt Millie and pictures of our March adventure, Anthony ‘Tony’ Fasano. WTF have I gotten myself into?!?!?!?!

I'm disappointed in myself for discovering this author. I hate that I picked up January because now I am beyond invested, beyond sold by this author, and thus my wallet is going to b*tch-slap me into next week when I buy the rest of the books ASAP.
I absolutely ADORED Wes, and I absolutely ADORED the way the author didn't cheapen what he had with Mia by making her fall head over heels with somebody else. You can feel a different kind of affection between Mia and Alec. It's a very heated one, chemically driven. To be frankly honest, I don't have a thing for French men. They make me cringe. Sorry, French dudes, I grew up in Canada being force-fed French classes and the language is too sweet, too feminine for me, and I love a rugged man in every way imaginary. But, Alec was an exception. He was a workaholic; a romantic at heart with a vocabulary that would make you both swoon and roll your eyes at the same time. I enjoyed him fiercely, and not for the obvious reason of being sexy eye candy. More for teaching our heroine a lesson that most women should appreciate. To love thyself. We are all beautiful in our own way, and it only counts when we believe in it too.

Did Mia get all slutty? Sure. She's a freaking escort. Was it too soon? That was for her to decide. I'm not the kind of person that will read a book about a woman getting into bed with several people and call her a slut. Mainly because we have that many romance books out there where we have allowed men to do the same and not care about it. There are double standards in romantic fiction that not enough people address. What I like about this concept is the author went, "I don't give a crap, this is what I want it to be" and made that happen. With no hesitancy. No fear of rejection. She literally has balls where many authors do not. And thus the books are not recycled. The plot - of a woman entering an escort service for some life threatening reason IS - but the delivery is very different, very unique.

I'm still team Wes, my scrumptious sexy blonde haired man who I'd imaginatively lick in very dark places. I mean, what?

And I'm starting to wonder what happened to Mia's mother. Anybody else think her disappearing when she was a kid was out of the ordinary? I have a hard time letting issues like this sit. It simmers inside me. I just have to know.

Onwards to book 3! 5/5 stars

Just a quick read

The second installment of the the Calendar Girl series. This is definitely a quick read for an afternoon on the beach. Don't expect the best literary work it is just for enjoyment. Personally I find the idea of Mia sleeping with 12 different guys in a year a little off putting and goes against the idea of empowering women. However, I am hooked and wanting the best for the lead character. I will give the next book a try and see if it goes a different direction.

I love this book. It has really neat stories in Spanish with lots of new vocabulary. This is a great book.

Okay for beginning to intermediate Spanish

This is okay but I prefer Diez Cuentos de Eva Luna, for the stories, plus all the tarea. Excelente! Also just purchased similar item: El Cuento Hisp�nico. These two are a little more advanced than Graded Spanish Reader so depends on what you are looking for.
