Lovely and interesting!

I got this because i've been reading Josh Lanyon's additions to this series (Petit Morts), which are all wonderful, and i was especially curious about the Chance guy character - the owner of the chocolate shop.

Sean Kennedy's story is different in a very good and interesting way, the atmosphere is palpable, soaringly optimistic but melancholy, i found, at times.
If you're curious about Chance and even if less so, it's a lovely read.

Very very good. I liked the structure of the book. The loose change doesn't seem to reflect only a part of the book, but it's as if the author collected all the bits and pieces of Chance's life and put them in a jar to draw from it as needed. It had the teasing of all the beginnings of the series. I think only JCP owns Chance so much to catch his edge of darkness, but in my opinion Sean Kennedy also caught the interesting shades of the character.

Book is mediocre and difficult to follow. Students be warned.... The solutions manual for this product has numerous errors and teachers have assigned these problems to see who is actually doing the work. Overall this book is probably the best Dynamic Systems book I have gone through.

Although I have been a maker since before the word was invented, and I already knew a great deal of what is in this book, I find it a delightful compilation of the most useful tools and how to use them correctly. It even reminded me of a few things I had learned once but had since forgotten. I bought a kindle copy, and then invested in another print copy to keep in our nascent makerspace for people to refer to and help them imagine what they might be able to do, given the right tools (in a nutshell... almost anything!)

Inspiration on pages

This in not a great book, but it is a pleasant read with a few good ideas. My shop is more machine with a LITTLE tech. We have now removed the tech from the machine shop and setting up in a clean room. So the book earned it's keep and paid for itself.

A must-buy for anyone interested in Making

I have subscribed to Make magazine since its inception and have been involved in numerous excursions into robot building. This book provides the best one-stop reference I have ever seen. The author provides detailed explanations of tools (great ideas for presents) and concentrates on their function and how you would correctly use them. As an example, I never knew that the handle color of metal shears actually indicates the type of cut they were designed for (now I know why I had a hard time making a straight cut with my shears).

Beyond basic tools, the book also covers advanced equipment like 3D printers and laser cutters. How they work, how to service them, how to program them and sample projects to try. Electronics, from the basics of soldering to more advanced concepts like circuit board design, are covered in considerable depth. At the end of the book there is an entire section dedicated to moving STEM related projects into the classroom.

Well balanced, this book should appeal to seasoned makers who want a solid reference to turn to. It should also appeal to anyone who wants to try their hand at designing or making the type of projects found in Make magazine. Finally, if you are setting up a Makerspace in your school, business, or if you're lucky enough, your basement or garage this book is absolutely required.

Jerome Pier grew up near Utica, New York. He holds a bachelor's of science degree in forestry biology, a master's degree in agronomy and weed science, and a PhD in soil and water science. He works for Crop Production Services. He is married and has two daughters and lives near Lodi, California. Dave Barlow has worked for J.R. Simplot Co. since 1989, has forty-three years of experience in the turf and landscape industry, and holds a Bachelor of Science in crop science with a concentration in agronomy. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is a licensed pest control adviser in California in all categories.

Essential horticultural reference

As a horticultural professional I work tirelessly to maintain current and accurate knowledge of the various technical elements that comprise the work that I perform. Upon receipt of this text, I sat down and gave it a thorough review and discovered a good many updates to my present understanding of fertilizer and the role it plays in plant health. In addition, the focus on the chemistry of the fertilizer components have been very helpful in aiding my understanding of how many of the materials I have come to rely upon in commercial fertilizer blends are constructed. Frankly, I would hope this text finds its way into the undergraduate classroom so as to better prepare and more thoroughly inform the horticulture major as it has grown increasingly frustrating to interview candidates for roles involving fertility management and crop production only to learn they often know nothing of the chemistry of fertilizer as it pertains to plants and their growth. Only a couple of weeks of my ownership finds the reference to be quite a page burner and therefore, essential reading for those of us endeavoring to practice horticulture from an informed place of knowing. Highly recommended.Western Fertilizer Handbook: Third Horticulture Edition
