Nothing much here but okay as a light read

Alot of the stories were familiar- I have heard Lisa speak once before and she might have written about them in the Collective . I am a huge admirer and fan of Lisa's and subscribe to her magazine but this book did not impress me. It sounded like a successful person gloating and waffling on with instagram style inspirations - there was no substance. I would recommend it as a light read, but there is nothing to get stuck into here.

Raw, honest and edgy.

After months of waiting for the Kindle version to be released, I finally was able to buy and download Daring and Disruptive to my iPad last night. This morning I finished reading it. It's rare I can - or do - read a book from cover to cover right away - this was one of those rare occasions. Lisa Messenger shares her amazing journey and message from the highs and lows of her vast entrepreneurial business experience and importantly, her deep self knowledge and awareness, from years of self inquiry, therapy and healing. Grounded, mature, authentic and brave, Lisa shares her philosophy and tips for creating a successful business, or taking a new inventive approach to an existing one. Well written in an easy to read yet compelling way, I love her honesty and willingness to tell the truth - that business and entrepreneurialism are not easy, and the sooner you embrace and accept the idea that you will fall, you will fail, and you will falter along the way, the better... And Is part of the growth, learning, strength, tenacity and confidence you will build along the way - just continue getting up each time you fall and these qualities will take you to the next level and beyond what you could have ever dreamed of. It does help when reading Lisa's book knowing first hand that her experience is authentic and real - having met her in 2004 at a personal growth workshop when we were both going through rough patches in our life and ready to make a huge turnaround, which we did. As a fellow Aussie female entrepreneur at that time, it has been both inspiring and exhilarating for me to witness Lisa's growth, successes and achievements - not only professionally but personally as well - it hasn't always been easy, which is what makes the messages in Daring and Disruptive all the more powerful. The reassurance from someone who has "made it" in the traditional way society views success, got there despite all the odds and the setbacks...and above all, has dug to her very depths to become a truly successful human being - one who is grounded in her true values, strong enough to stick by them, brave enough to create her life and a new business around them, and share her wisdom, knowledge, fears and failures in ways that remind us all the true meaning of success in this life - the ability to live our own life by our own standards and values and use our innate talent and gifts to share with the world in ways that make it a better place. To me, success is measured by our ability to walk our talk, to be a living example of what we believe in and the difference we want to make in the world, leaving it a little bit brighter for us having been here. Lisa does that in spades and reading D&D was the kickstart I needed to finally dig up the courage to share my own story and message in a book of my own. I'm looking forward to Lisa's next book which I hope will include a deeper dive into her life experiences and challenges. Whatever it is, I know it will be amazing.

Waste of Time

I am one of those readers, upon starting a book, must finish, and this book was a total waste of my time. I was pretty excited to read Lisa Messenger's advice to entrepreneurial success, as I followed Collective Hub and wanted to learn more. It's pages are filled with motivational quotes and tired expressions, neither interesting nor inspiring. If you have never taken a basic marketing, branding, or business course, this book may prove helpful to you. If you have taken one of these basic courses, do not waste your time.

A book for healing hearts

I'm not sure what I expected from Stained Glass Hearts by Patsy Clairmont. The subtitle, Seeing Life from a Broken Perspective, certainly seemed to apply to anyone who has lived a life which contained disappointments. So, I kicked back, cracked it open, and dug in. To start with, the author's writing style is very, very chatty. I could almost hear her. I really enjoyed, at the end of every chapter, her suggestions for healing activities: Scripture, music, art, literature, museums and the like.

Clairmont is very personable, seemingly very open about her own struggles with agoraphobia. She seems incessantly cheery, almost to the point of being flip. In fact that became a problem for me; I could not imagine sharing such a book with a suffering friend. I almost put it down. But somewhere around the middle, in a chapter appropriately entitled "Stained Glass Prayer," the author truly let the reading have a glimpse of her broken heart. I began to get a real sense of the caming that holds her broken heart together: " . . . when we lose our joy, the Spirit replaces it with endurance, that indestructible internal insistence to keep on keeping on." And so, finally, I saw how the Almighty pieced together her broken heart through prayer, reading, poetry, nature, and grace. That is what I needed to hear.

Would I share this book with a broken-hearted friend? Probably not. But I would certainly share it with one whose heart is healing.

Making Something Beautiful from the Pieces - "Stained Glass Hearts" by Patsy Clairmont

I have loved Patsy Clairmont ever since my first Women of Faith Conference more than a decade ago. This tiny older lady captivated her audience while holding a tangle of rubber bands. Her dry, witty, yet compassionate delivery carries over onto every page of "Stained Glass Hearts" and I must say that Patsy's prose just gets better with age!

Unlike most books that can be construed as a Bible study, this book is more of a study in beauty - the kind that comes in a variety of forms. Each chapter ends with suggestions of music, art (and website links to view them) and poetry as well as Scripture. Patsy's heartfelt observations about life and the obstacles we all face (loss, grief, pain, etc.) invite the reader into an intimate setting - much like having a long heart-to-heart with a wise older friend. I know I'm picking up stuff I can use when I start turning corners of pages for things I want to remember.

One nugget I marked was, "It's human to wonder and wrestle. Give yourself permission to pray your doubts and despair. God isn't offended by our frailty." Good stuff, right?

"Stained Glass Hearts" is full of nuggets of wisdom, packaged with humor, grace and insight. I'll be passing this around to all my friends...as soon as I'm done reading it a second time!

Stained Glass Hearts

Stained Glass Hearts by Patsy Clairmont is an interesting look at areas of our lives and how we view them. Using this type of artwork as a way to look at situations is really a very unique way of dealing with the things that life throws at us.

This has a powerful message that gives encouragement and inspiration to everyone that needs it. Clairmont does a brilliant job of weaving the stained glass theme into each situation that she goes over in the book, and compares it to relatable stories.

Even though it is a rather deep book, it is an easy read that will have you stop to think about what you're reading. Not all books can do this, but Clairmont does a very good job with this.

Although the music and other things suggested for further listening and reading I probably won't look into further, it is there for others to read or listen to, if they choose.

The overall message that I got from the book is to be more grateful in all things. This is something that most of us don't do enough of, and it is through gratitude that we can all really live a life of joy.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and learning from it. I highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading religious books such as this, especially those of "Women of Faith."

About the Author
Steve Andreas has a BS in Chemistry from Caltech, and an MA in Psychology from Brandeis University. He has been learning, training, researching and developing Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) patterns for the last 28 years. He is also the author of Transforming Your Self: becoming who you want to be, and Virginia Satir: the patterns of her magic. Steve is also co-author, with his wife Connirae, of Heart of the Mind, and Change Your Mind-and Keep the Change, and they edited four classic NLP books by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, the original co-developers of NLP: Frogs into Princes, Trance-formations, Reframing, and Using Your Brain-for a CHANGE.

I've read at least 30 NLP books out there, by everyone, Bandler, Dilts, James, Faulkner, etc.... I have to say this book is the best one I've ever read... ever. Whether your new to NLP this is a fantastic starting place due to the conversational nature of this book. And if you experienced like me, its shines a whole new perspetive on NLP. I'd recommend this over every other NLP our there. Steve Andreas is a very considerate person who puts his own taste on NLP

Magnificent!

This is a really good piece of work by Steve Andreas. It's utterly amazing. It's kind of a challenging read at first though. And I do prefer the first volume over the second but the material in it is so good. I love it. It's gone so far to develop my understanding about the structure of people's internal world. How they categorize their thoughts, he explains logical levels better than from what I can tell Robert Dilts and L. Michael Hall ever have. And that's not meant to be a sleight to either one of them. They have both made important contributions to the field of NLP.

Before I read this book I thought Richard Bandler was the master of teaching about working with generalizations. I think Steve Andreas one upped him on this one. Definitely check it out! It's not always an easy read but it is definitely a rewarding read. That will pay you dividends for years to come.
